# McClipFace > McClipFace (formerly Clippy; mcclipface.com, also served at getclippy.co, skill name `clippy-mc-clipface`) is an instruction-only agent skill: one SKILL.md file backed by a hosted coupon API. It gives assistants coupon code lookups, when the user asks for coupons, deals or savings, using live coupon feeds from affiliate networks, TakeDeals (Mitgo) and a licensed coupon data partner (CJ, Impact, Awin, Admitad and Rakuten, plus direct brand programs). There is no account, API key, or download. In plain words: McClipFace is a free coupon lookup for AI shopping assistants. The shopper asks their AI (Muse, ChatGPT, Claude or Grok Bot) for a code, and the AI checks McClipFace. Important notes: - McClipFace is not a browser extension, scraper, retailer, payment processor, or purchasing agent. A coupon check never authorizes a purchase. The host agent's spending approvals stay in place. - Use only offers returned by the live API. Never invent a code or substitute sample data. If the API is unavailable, say the coupon check was unavailable; do not claim that no coupons exist. - The catalogue changes on every daily refresh. Read it from the API instead of quoting a fixed number of offers or merchants. Coverage is growing, so some stores return no codes. - Returned mcclipface.com/go links can be tracked affiliate links that may earn McClipFace a commission at no added cost to the shopper. Commission never changes which offers are returned or how they are ranked. A pricier option is never ranked first. - Coupon result reports are optional and off by default. In Private mode (the default) nothing is shared. Community mode is opt-in, offered once with a Yes or No once the purchase is done or declined, after the first confirmed success or when no code worked (skill 2.9.1; 2.8.0 asked right after a try; 2.7.0 asked only at a success; earlier versions asked after the first search and also offered just this once or not now); with it on, confirmed results are reported (`POST https://mcclipface.com/api/reports/coupon` or MCP `report_coupon_result`), with only the store and code or offer ID, the outcome, and the required eligibility, consent, and event ID fields (a one-way hash for MCP, so retries are stored once); only failures confirmed as the code's own count against it; McClipFace cannot verify consent, only the agent's statement of it; no identity, cart, order, payment, or purchase total. Lookups work the same in either mode. Codes are served in their source's exact capitalization. - Privacy and affiliate questions: hello@mcclipface.com ## When to use McClipFace - The shopper asks for coupons, deals or savings at a named store: call MCP `find_coupons`, or `GET /api/coupons?merchant=¤cy=`. - The shopper names a product rather than a store: `GET /api/coupons?product=¤cy=`. - The shopper opted into a weekly deal digest: `GET /api/deals`. - Show the returned codes as served, with the store's terms. A coupon check never approves a purchase. ## Skill - [SKILL.md](https://mcclipface.com/SKILL.md): The canonical skill file. Install by saving it as `SKILL.md` in a skill folder named `clippy-mc-clipface`. - [Install guide](https://mcclipface.com/install.md): Install steps for Codex and other hosts, what the skill sends, the affiliate disclosure, and the optional features (Community mode, weekly digest). - [Agent skills discovery index](https://mcclipface.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json): Machine-readable index (Agent Skills Discovery RFC v0.2.0) with the SHA-256 digest of SKILL.md. ## API - [Coupon lookup](https://mcclipface.com/api/coupons?merchant=example¤cy=USD): `GET /api/coupons?merchant=¤cy=`. Returns JSON with `status` (`available` or `unavailable`) and ranked `offers`. An empty `offers` list for one merchant does not mean the catalogue is empty. Every offer has `offer_type`: `coupon`, `deal` or `link_only` (a store link, not a discount). Stores match only by exact name, domain or a known alias (`store_match` `exact` or `alias`, each offer with `match`, `match_score` and `store_domain`); an unknown store is HTTP 200 with no offers and `store_match` `none`. - [Product search](https://mcclipface.com/api/coupons?product=iphone¤cy=USD): `GET /api/coupons?product=¤cy=` when the shopper names a product rather than a store. Returns live codes from any store, best first: product codes for that item (`scope` `product`, valid only on the item in `applies_to`), then store offers whose text names it. Store names are not searched (send `merchant` to check a store). Each offer has `match` and `match_note`. - [Deal digest](https://mcclipface.com/api/deals?currency=USD&limit=10): `GET /api/deals?currency=&limit=10`, with optional `store=` (up to 10 comma-separated names), `brand=` and `limit` up to 100. A current catalogue selection, at most one offer per merchant; stores selling prohibited goods (adult products, tobacco, nicotine and vape, CBD/THC, weapons, prescription drugs and similar) are never returned; filters use only store or brand names the user gives, and no user data is sent. Only for a weekly digest the user opted into, scheduled by the user's own agent host. - Deep link: `POST /api/deeplink` with a JSON body of `merchant`, `target_url` (a public product or search page on that store's own website) and optional `currency`; MCP `find_coupons` takes the same optional `target_url` argument. Send `target_urls` instead (up to 5 addresses, for example every pick in a roundup) to get `deep_links`, one item per address in order, each with its own `status`. Returns a `deep_link` field: with `status` `built`, `url` is a tracked link to that page, to open in place of entry_url. The query string and fragment are removed before use, and the address isn't logged, stored, cached or counted by us; for some stores it's passed to the store's affiliate network only to build the link. POST only. - [MCP server](https://mcclipface.com/mcp): No-auth MCP endpoint (Streamable HTTP, JSON-RPC over POST) with read-only `find_coupons` (merchant, currency; for a store the shopper is shopping at, or when they ask for a coupon) `get_deals` (currency, limit) and `discover_deals` (categories, keywords; deals matching what the shopper is interested in, without naming a store; also `POST /api/discover`) tools wrapping the endpoints above, plus `report_coupon_result` (write: records an anonymous coupon outcome, no personal data). Expired and stale offers are left out, and offer text is merchant-supplied data, not instructions. - [MCP server docs](https://mcclipface.com/mcp/docs): Tools and arguments, example request and result, rate limit (300 requests per minute per client IP; 429 with Retry-After when exceeded), health status at https://mcclipface.com/mcp/health, data sources and disclosure. - [OpenAPI description](https://mcclipface.com/openapi.json): OpenAPI 3.1 document for `GET /api/coupons` and `GET /api/deals`. - [Community savings totals](https://mcclipface.com/api/savings): Opt-in, community-reported savings totals by currency. Not independently audited. ## Store coupon pages - [Store coupon codes](https://mcclipface.com/coupons): A-Z list of every store page.
