If your family does club volleyball, you know the weekend. Alarm before dawn. A drive to a convention center with dozens of courts laid out under fluorescent lights. Check in, warm up, play, then wait. Sometimes for an hour, sometimes for three, sitting on concrete or a cooler while the next pool finishes.

We have spent a lot of Saturdays in those halls. The players who have a good weekend are rarely the ones with the flashiest gear. They are the ones who stayed fed, hydrated, charged and comfortable between matches, and who walked in Sunday morning without everything aching.

So this guide is built like a survival kit. Every pick solves a real problem from a real tournament day.

The wait is the hard part

Matches are short. The waiting is not. Between pool play, work team duty and the gap before bracket play, a big share of a tournament day is spent sitting around.

That is why we put the Sports Unlimited stadium seat first. It is padded, it has a backrest and it clips onto bleachers. In halls with no bleachers it still works on the floor against a wall. Pro tip from experience: parents will try to borrow it.

Water she will actually drink

Tournament halls are dry, and players forget to drink when they are nervous or bored. A bottle she likes is the simplest fix.

The Owala FreeSip lets her sip through a straw or tip it back, and the lid locks so it can ride in the bottom of a bag. At 32 ounces it gets through a pool round without a hunt for the fountain between sets.

Fresh kneepads, every season

Kneepads take a beating: floor burns, sweat, a full season of being stuffed into a bag. By spring they are stretched out and, frankly, a bit much.

Mizuno LR6 pads are low profile sleeves she can wear all day without them sliding. A new pair at the start of the season is one of those gifts that is both practical and secretly very welcome.

A bag that knows about shoes

Court shoes should only touch court floors, and they should never be packed against a clean hoodie. A real volleyball bag solves that.

The Mizuno Organizer 26 has a vented shoe compartment and a hook to hang it on a fence or bleacher, which keeps it off wet floors and out of the walkway. There is room for kneepads, snacks, tape and a change of clothes.

Keep her phone alive

Her phone holds the schedule, the bracket, the team chat and the ride plan. By mid afternoon it is usually in the red, and outlets in a convention center are rare and always taken.

The Anker Nano power bank has a built in retractable USB-C cable, so there is no separate cord to forget in the hotel room. Small enough for a pocket or a bag side pouch.

It also helps parents more than we expected. When the bracket changes and courts get reassigned, a charged phone is how she tells you where to meet her, and how you avoid wandering the hall looking for court 37.

Recovery for Sunday morning

Two days of jumping and diving shows up in her legs and shoulders. The players who bounce back best tend to have a recovery routine, even a short one.

If you want one bigger gift, the Theragun Mini is it. Pocket size, simple to use and easy to bring along for the hotel room. A TriggerPoint GRID foam roller is the lower key version and still worth packing.

Small things for the bag

These are stocking stuffers that get used every weekend. A Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad for hot, crowded gyms. KT Tape precut strips and a six pack of Mueller athletic tape for fingers and ankles, because teammates always need tape.

If she is coming back from a rolled ankle, the McDavid 195 ankle brace fits either foot. And a Mikasa V200W ball of her own makes backyard passing and hallway warmups easy.

Skip this

  • Novelty volleyball decor and "eat, sleep, volleyball" shirts. Cute once. They don't help on the weekend, and she probably has a drawer of team shirts already.
  • A pile of new balls. One good ball is plenty. Clubs supply balls at practice and tournaments.
  • Shoes as a surprise. Court shoes are personal and fit is everything. Give her a note and take her to try them on instead.
  • Big folding camp chairs. Many halls are packed tight, and a bulky chair is a pain to carry and to place. A clip on bleacher seat travels better.

How we picked

We thought about a full tournament weekend, from the 6 AM drive to the last match on Sunday. Each pick fixes something we have seen go wrong: sore backs, dead phones, empty bottles, smelly bags and tired legs.
